Sou (スウ Sū) is a minor character of Genshi Shonen Ryu. He is the son of the chieftain of the Tribe that resided on Salaman Island. He came to the mainland to hunt, but became stranded and was attacked by a sea scorpion. Ryu, Ran and Don heard Sou's screams and rushed to the scene. Ryu was able to kill the creature, saving Sou's life, but the boy fell unconscious due to exhaustion. They took him to a nearby cave where Ran nursed Sou back to health, leading to him to develop feelings for her. Once Sou had regained strength, they began building a raft together to travel to Salaman Island to take Sou home. After spending days kayaking at sea, they finally arrived at Salaman Island where they were greeted with open arms by the islanders upon reaching shore. Sou was reunited with his father and his love interest, Zapi. To celebrate Sou's safe return, the islanders invited Ryu and the others for a grand feast. During the celebration, the chieftain informs Ryu of a possible lead to the whereabouts of Ryu's mother, leading him and the others to stay with the islanders a little while longer. Ever since his meeting with Ran, Sou had become disinterested with Zapi and chose to distance himself from her, much to her dismay. Sou eventually confides with his father, asking if he agrees that he should take Ran as his bride. His father disagrees, stating that he already has Zapi and sees that Ran is already close to Ryu. Seeing Ryu as an obstacle, Sou is determined to get rid of him so that he can have Ran all to himself. Sou eventually encounters Taka and his group and together hatched a scheme to ambush Ryu. During the night when Salaman Island is hit by a heavy storm, Sou approaches Ryu, informing him that he had located his mother. Ryu headed towards the location Sou directed him to, leaving Ran and Don with him. As the others grew anxious of Ryu's whereabouts, Sou took the opportunity to propose himself in front of Ran, trying to convince her to stay. Zapi eventually steps in and reveals the whole truth. Frustrated by Sou's lies and endangering Ryu, Ran and Don rushed through the storm to locate Ryu, leaving Sou bewildered and Zapi distraught.
